Overview

The choice is not only about the gap. It depends on how many teeth are missing and where, the condition of the remaining teeth and bone, how you bite, and what you can maintain at home. At İzmir Dent this planning is done by a prosthodontics specialist.

Who is it for?

• A tooth too broken down or too heavily filled for a simple filling
• One or more gaps affecting chewing, speech or appearance
• An existing denture that no longer fits, rocks or causes sore spots
• Worn-down teeth from grinding, with a collapsed bite

How we do it

1. 01

   Assessment

   Examination of the remaining teeth, gums, bone and bite, with radiographs — and treatment of any decay or gum disease first.

2. 02

   Design

   The type of prosthesis is chosen and, where relevant, tried in wax or digitally so shape and bite can be checked before production.

3. 03

   Preparation and impression

   Teeth are prepared where needed and a conventional or digital impression is taken. Temporary restorations are fitted in the meantime.

4. 04

   Fit and adjust

   The prosthesis is tried in, the bite is adjusted, and it is fitted. Removable work usually needs one or two adjustment visits.

After the treatment

• A new prosthesis takes a little getting used to — speech and chewing normalise within days.
• Removable work must be cleaned outside the mouth daily and left out overnight unless advised otherwise.
• Sore spots are normal in the first week and are easily adjusted — do not endure them.
